March 2018 Newletter

Hi LSClubbers

The next 2 weeks are going to be a hive of exhilarating activity at our club. Here’s a quickie run-down of what’s happening, so you don’t miss out:-

SATURDAY 3rd MARCH (that’s today!)

Its Finals Day of our club’s inaugural Doubles Squash Club Champs Tournaments this afternoon.

Matches start at 1:30pm with some of the outstanding round-robin matches in the Men’s Doubles competition, and then the Finals of the two competitions – the Men’s and the Mixed Doubles – will be taking place from 2:30pm onwards. It should all be done and dusted by 4:30pm.

Mixed Doubles Finals:    Jacques du Toit & Vida van Rensburg      vs            Shaun Kramer & Carrie Lam

Men’s Doubles Final:      Rob Pullinger & Laurence Woodburn       vs            Winners from Jacques & Shaun vs Simon Davies & Angelos Christodoulou

If you’ve never watched Doubles Squash, come down to the club and brace yourself to be amazed! It’s fast and action-packed, and takes an incredible amount of skill for 4 players to manoeuvre around in a confined space without doing bodily harm to each other!!

Happening at the same time this afternoon, but out on our Tennis Courts, our Mixed Doubles Tennis team (captained by Bob Groeneveld and Tracy Morris) have a home fixture against UCT.

So you’ll have the best of both worlds to feast on if you pop down to the club this afternoon – watch our club’s best squash and tennis players in action.

I’m sure they would appreciate some rousing local support!

Our club’s annual Tennis Club Champs Finals Day will be held on Sunday 18th. We’re getting down to the business end in the tournament, with some highly anticipated quarter-finals being played over the coming week.

I will keep you posted on who makes the finals of the different competitions, but please diarize Sunday 18th in the meantime.

Our Tennis Champs Finals Day is always a festive occasion, and one of the highlights on our club’s annual schedule.

We wrapped up our Summer League Squash social tournament earlier this week. Well done to Blue Team for taking the honours. (Gary Silberman, Bryan Owen, Eddie Scholtz, Jesse Pereira, Sam Lupini, Brenda Owen, Janice Grant and Rob Williamson).

And a special congrats to Gary Silberman, Bryan Owen, Eddie Scholtz, Sarah Jean Behrens, Kenau Vith and David Clamp for going through the whole Summer League tournament unbeaten, winning all 5 of their matches!

Our squash season has now moved into the WP League season for our Ladies, Men’s and Masters teams. The League season runs from March through to September.

For our social (non-league players), make sure you keep fit, as immediately after the completion of the WP League Season (September), we go straight into our Annual Squash Club Champs, which is open to all our members.

Thanks for reading. Wishing you all a fab weekend, and hope to see some of you at court-side this afternoon to watch our squash and tennis stars in action!
