December 2014 Newsletter

Hi LSClubbers

Unlike my usual “war-and-piece” epic newsletters, this final one for 2014 will be short and festively sweet  - seeing as I’m about to trek off with my family for a week of camping on the Berg River, and I’m under strict instructions from Lianne to leave my significant other, DELL, behind!!  J

1.  WELCOME:

Firstly, a very warm welcome to our new members who have joined LSC since September  (when I sent out my last newsletter). For those who I haven't had the opportunity to meet yet, I look forward to meeting you soon.

On behalf of the LSC Committee, thank you for joining, and we hope you thoroughly enjoy being a member of our proud and festive club, this year and for many years to come.

Please feel free to contact me at any time should you want to discuss any matter pertaining to the club and your membership.

2. RENEWAL OF MEMBERSHIP FEES:

For our “old-timer” members, if you still haven’t paid your 2014/15 membership renewal fees (which were due in September), you will find that your key tag has been disabled and your login access to our online booking system has been deactivated. We’d love to welcome you back with open arms and show you some Madiba love and forgiveness, but need you to first settle your account.  Please contact Sheena on 083 453 0357 or sheenastephens@iafrica.com to do so.

3. TENNIS:

Mens and Ladies League Tennis kicks off again in January. A big thank you to Bob Groeneveld and Michelle Dutton for again standing as our Men’s and Ladies League Captains for 2015.

If you are new to our club and are interested in getting more involved in the tennis portfolio, Eric Putsman runs mixed socials every Sunday morning from 10am-12pm (weather permitting). If you’re keen to get involved, you can contact Eric on 083 777 5206.

Also, should you want any coaching lessons – for you or your kids – you can contact Michelle on 082 497 7540.

4.  SQUASH:

We finished off the squash calendar for 2014 with another successful Club Champs. Congrats to Laurence Esteve, Jonny Pulker and Josh Harford for winning the Ladies, Mens and Juniors titles respectively.

We then had a fun end-of-year social Doubles evening and braai in early December to bring the year to a close.

The doubles proves such a big hit that a few people have asked whether we can do more of those.  We will kick off our 2015 calendar with another social doubles evening and braai, on Thursday 22nd January. So please diarise that date – it will be a great opportunity for us all to dust the festive cobwebs off, and work off those extra Christmas lunch helpings!

We will then kick-off our annual Summer League social squash tournament the following week (26th Jan), and run that up until the WP Squash League starts in March. I will send a reminder in mid-January, asking for entries. If you already know that you’re going to want to participate in the Summer League, feel free to reply to this mail now.

5.  THANK YOU’S:

We gave our clubhouse a make-over in the second half of the year, and it was remiss of me not to thank the people who were involved in my previous newsletter. So, apologies for that, and belated thanks to the following super-stars:-

- Mark Biggs/Hout Bay Handiman Centre, for donating the paint and hanging mirror;

- Clive Moses, for doing the painting;

- Natasja Mallam, for painting the picture frames, and hanging the frames on the walls;

- Debs Paul, for assisting Natasja with hanging the pictures;

- Harold Mead, for fixing the satellite cable;

- Sheena Stephens, for managing the whole renovations project;

That’s it. You see – I can be short(ish) and sweet(ish) when I want to be!

All that’s left for me to say is a thank you all for your ongoing support of our club, and wish you and your families a peaceful, enjoyable and safe festive season, and lots of fun, fitness and laughter in 2015.

Cheers

Rob
