December 2013 Newsletter

Hi LSClubbers

Unlike my usual “war-and-piece” epic newsletters, this final one for 2013 will be short and festively sweet  - seeing as I’m away camping on the Berg River with my family this week, and a swim in the river next to our tent sounds a far more appetising prospect than being hunched over this keyboard! J

Firstly, a very warm welcome to our new members who have joined LSC since September  (when I sent out my last newsletter). For those who I haven't had the opportunity to meet yet, I look forward to meeting you soon.

On behalf of the LSC Committee, thank you for joining, and we hope you thoroughly enjoy being a member of our proud and festive club, this year and for many years to come.

Please feel free to contact me at any time should you want to discuss any matter pertaining to the club and your membership.

For our “old-timer” members, if you still haven’t paid your 2013/14 membership renewal fees (which were due in September), you will find that your key tag has been disabled and your login access to our online booking system has been deactivated. We’d love to welcome you back with open arms and show you some Madiba love and forgiveness, but need you to first settle your account.  Please contact Sheena on 083 453 0357 or to do so.

Mens and Ladies League Tennis kicks off again in January. A big thank you to Ant Sneath who has been our Mens League Captain for the last 3 years, and has now handed the baton over to Bob Groeneveld for the 2014 league season. Thanks for accepting the role, Bob, and thanks to Michelle Dutton for agreeing to stay on as our Ladies League Captain.

If you are new to our club and are interested in getting more involved in the tennis portfolio, Eric Putsman runs mixed socials every Sunday morning from 10am-12pm (weather permitting). If you’re keen to get involved, you can contact Eric on 083 777 5206.

Also, should you want any coaching lessons – for you or your kids – you can contact Michelle Dutton. (082 497 7540).

We finished off the squash calendar for 2013 with another successful Club Champs. Congrats to Carrie Lam and Geoff Dods for retaining their titles – again! J

We then had a fun social Sundowner League in November, and brought the year to a close with a thoroughly enjoyable squash doubles evening and social braai.

The doubles proves such a big hit that a few people have asked whether we can do more of those.  I will look to organize another one in January, before we kick-off our annual Summer League social squash tournament to get us fir for the squash league season, which starts in March.

Paul Herrmann will be upgrading our online booking system on 15 December. It means that you are currently only able to make court bookings up to the 15th December, and not beyond. The system will be down on the 15th December for the upgrade, and Paul will send out a mail to all members once done, confirming that the upgrade has been successful, and that the system is operational again. Thanks Paul.

That’s it. You see – I can be short(ish) and sweet(ish) when I want to be!

Before I dash off for my swim in the river, let me thank all of you for your ongoing support of our club, and wish you and your families a peaceful and enjoyable festive season, and lots of fun, fitness and laughter in 2014.
