June 2016 Newsletter

Hi LSClubbers

I’m going to make a rare exception to my usual epic “War & Peace” newsletter tribunals, and keep this one punchy and precise!

(And that’s a combination of me being a pit pressed for time, having just landed in London and waiting to catch my uber, and the fact that I’m doused with a cocktail of flu medication, so my creative juices are running a tad empty today!)

I promise to return to form with my next newsletter, because I know how much you all look forward to my 101-page monologues!!!  J

1.  WELCOME:

A warm welcome to the new members who have joined our club since my last club newsletter sent out in March. Here’s wishing you many years of fun and fitness with us. I’ve had the opportunity to meet quite a few of you already. For those who I haven't yet met, I look forward to meeting you soon.

Please feel free to contact me at any time should you want to discuss any matter pertaining to the club and your membership.

2.  WP LEAGUE TENNIS:

The WP Tennis League 1st term season concluded in May, and a huge congrats to our Ladies team, captained by Kiki Bond-Smith, who won their 3rd League division in the Thursday Morning league. What a fantastic achievement. We are very proud of you.

Are two other league teams, the Men’s Doubles and Mixed Doubles teams, both achieved Top 3 finishes in their respective leagues, so well done to them too.

If you’re wanting to get involved in league tennis at the club, please contact Bob Groeneveld (for Men) on 082 320 2258, or Tracy Morris (for Ladies) on 083 682 0644. We have teams that cater for varying skill levels.

3.  SOCIAL TENNIS:

Eric Putsman runs mixed socials every Sunday morning, 10am to 12pm (weather permitting). New members are invited to join. Please contact Eric on 083 777 5206 for further details.

For tennis coaching, members can contact Michelle Dutton on 082 497 7540. She caters for all ages and skill levels.

4.  WP SQUASH LEAGUE SEASON:

We’re reaching the half-way mark of the current WP Squash league season, and a couple of our team’s are handily placed to make a move to challenge for honours in the second half. Top of the pops

We’re always looking to strengthen the depth in our squads, so if you’re keen to get involved in the league set-up, you can contact the following people for more information:-

-       Ladies’ liaison:                    Margie Mackenzie (083 252 2755)

-       Men’s liaison:                     Rob Williamson (082 450 7905)

-       Masters’ Liaison:               Jacques du Toit (082 510 4952)

5.  ANNUAL GOLF DAY:

We’ve traditionally held our Annual Golf Day in May, and somehow managed to have the weather gods smile on us for most of the time. No mean feat considering May is one of the Cape’s wettest months. Alas, last year the weather gods frowned on us a bit more. For this year, we’ve decided to move the golf day to September and see how that pans out. We’ll send out more details closer to the time.

6.  LOST PROPERTY:

If you’ve lost/left anything at the club, the easiest way to try and track it down is to contact our groundsman, Clive Moses, on 072 207 6508. Please note that he only works at the club on Mondays, Wednesday and Fridays.

7. ANY SUGGESTIONS/COMPLAINTS…?

The LSC Committee is meeting next on 22nd June. If you have any suggestions/ideas/complaints that you would like to raise for the Committee to discuss, please send to me in a mail before 17 June.

Cheers

Rob
